About this data
- Source. ACLED Trends platform — organized violence (battles, explosions/remote violence, and violence against civilians; excludes protests, riots and other demonstrations), counted by country.
- Measured, not forecast. Each period is a 4-week window of observed (coded) events. Figures for recent periods may be revised as coding continues; the
latest_updatecolumn is ACLED's most recent data refresh. - Rolling windows — don't sum across periods. The 4-week window advances about one week per report, so consecutive periods overlap by up to 3 weeks. Treat each
period_endas its own snapshot; addingevent_countacross periods would double-count shared events. - Change columns.
change_pctandchange_abscompare the period against the average of the comparison baseline (Year= average of the prior 12 months).change_pctis a fraction:0.16= +16%. - Coverage. All countries and territories are included, including those with zero events.
- Updates. Scraped daily; ACLED typically publishes a new report mid-week. The cumulative
allfile is one row per country per measured period.
